Honestly, it’s thrilling to see entities still discriminating against people for speaking Spanish.
When my mom was in grade school, Spanish was not allowed in the classroom even if it was the only language you spoke. The teacher had a slab of splintered wood in the back of her classroom where she would punish students for speaking Spanish by making them kneel on the splintered wood, knees exposed, for extended periods of time.

Jury nullification. Pass it on.
Jury nullification is so fucking important.
This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a “not guilty” verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.
Wait, what? Jurors don’t get told this? Why the everloving fuck not?

LGBT advocates are pushing for more comprehensive immigration reform after it was revealed that Barack Obama may support a bill that excludes LGBT couples from its provisions.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that the president supports LGBT inclusion in immigration reform, but wouldn’t reject a bill just because same-sex couples are left out.
A bill put forward by the bipartisan “gang of eight” in the Senate would do nothing for the tens of thousands of same-sex couples unable to petition for legal status for the foreign-born partner. President Barack Obama has said he believes same-sex couples should receive equal immigration benefits. He’s also said, though, that the gang of eight bill is largely good, even if it excludes provisions he would support.
Carney made the same point to reporters on Air Force One.
“We have said that we support that provision, but we also think it’s very important to recognize that the overall bill here accomplishes what the president believes needs to be accomplished and is in keeping with his principles,” Carney said, according to a transcript.
Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy will reportedly introduce an amendment to include same-sex couples in the bill, but it’s unclear whether that measure would actually make it into the law. Ugh. Get it together, you guys.
