Honestly, it’s thrilling to see entities still discriminating against people for speaking Spanish.

When my mom was in grade school, Spanish was not allowed in the classroom even if it was the only language you spoke. The teacher had a slab of splintered wood in the back of her classroom where she would punish students for speaking Spanish by making them kneel on the splintered wood, knees exposed, for extended periods of time.

Isn’t growing up brown just fun?

Jury nullification. Pass it on.

Jury nullification is so fucking important.

This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a “not guilty” verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.

Wait, what? Jurors don’t get told this? Why the everloving fuck not?

Advocates demand LGBT-inclusive immigration reform:

LGBT advocates are pushing for more comprehensive immigration reform after it was revealed that Barack Obama may support a bill that excludes LGBT couples from its provisions.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that the president supports LGBT inclusion in immigration reform, but wouldn’t reject a bill just because same-sex couples are left out.

A bill put forward by the bipartisan “gang of eight” in the Senate would do nothing for the tens of thousands of same-sex couples unable to petition for legal status for the foreign-born partner. President Barack Obama has said he believes same-sex couples should receive equal immigration benefits. He’s also said, though, that the gang of eight bill is largely good, even if it excludes provisions he would support.

Carney made the same point to reporters on Air Force One.

“We have said that we support that provision, but we also think it’s very important to recognize that the overall bill here accomplishes what the president believes needs to be accomplished and is in keeping with his principles,” Carney said, according to a transcript.

Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy will reportedly introduce an amendment to include same-sex couples in the bill, but it’s unclear whether that measure would actually make it into the law. Ugh. Get it together, you guys.

And, why do we kick people out of their homes and then let them sit and gather dust while the people live on the streets? UGH I DUNNO HOW TO FIX THE WORLD

Because the banks and the landowners don’t turn a profit if the houses are filled. And people living on the edge of poverty are less likely to organise and fight back, and will work for lower wages…

Which is why the only way we can we can fix the world is to organise to defeat capitalism in our workplaces, communities and in the streets to take power out of the hands of the rich and powerful and put it in the hands of the people.

We need a social movement that unites all of our social movements into one push for global change.

Some organisations to look into if you are in the USA: The Industrial Workers of the World, The International Socialist Organisation, Solidarity, Common Struggle, Socialist Action, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Freedom Socialist Party, Socialist Appeal, the Freedom Road Socialist Organisation and the Socialist Party USA.

Of course there are a myriad of other groups and movements that you should definitely look into, but all of those groups have good introductions to anti-capitalist ideas.

i will never not reblog this when i see it come around

just want to remind everyone that the number of black men in jail does not necessarily reflect the number of black men engaged in crime. Especially when you consider how many poor black men are imprisoned due to plea bargains and never see a jury. Black men are unjustly and wrongly prosecuted every day. So even though there are more black men in college than in prison, there are still way too many black men in prison and a lot of the time it is not about the black man not valuing education, but rather it is about capitalism, slavery, and systemic racism.
